Car left crumpled wreck as suspected drink-driver three times the limit arrested

A driver allegedly gave a breath test reading of more than three times over the legal alcohol limit in the aftermath of a serious crash.

The man was arrested just after 7am on Tuesday after he crashed on the Pencoed roundabout of the A473 in Bridgend. No other vehicles were involved.

The 58-year-old driver was reportedly found to be more than three times the legal alcohol limit after a roadside breath test which gave a reading of 126mg per 100ml of breath. The legal limit in England and Wales is 35.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Shortly before 7.15am police attended a single vehicle road traffic collision on the Pencoed roundabout of the A473 in Bridgend.

"Having failed a roadside breath test the 58 year-old male driver has been arrested and taken to Queen’s Road police station, Bridgend."
