Car leaves trail of destruction after crashing into railings and wall at Walker home

A police investigation is under way after a car crashed into a Walker garden - before the occupants fled the scene.

A railing was mowed down and bricks scattered everywhere following the crash on St Anthony's Road on Saturday night.

"The car crashed into the house taking the gate and wall with it," said one onlooker.

"The (occupants) got the car off the path and then ran down Finsbury Avenue."

Police arrived within minutes but those inside were already gone. Officers are now trying to track them down.

“At 8.30pm on Saturday July 18 we received a report of a one-vehicle collision on St Anthony’s Road, Newcastle," said a Northumbria Police spokesperson.

“It was reported that a vehicle had crashed into the front garden of a house. Emergency services attended but the occupants had already left the scene.

"Nobody has reported to have been seriously injured. Enquiries are ongoing to trace all those involved.”
