Car involved in hit-and-run smash after failing to stop for police

Police have issued an appeal after a hit-and-run crash in Wigan.

A gold Volvo Estate was involved in the smash with 'an innocent motorist' on Kitt Green Road, in Marsh Green, at about 3pm on Monday.

The vehicle had failed to stop for officers after being seen driving dangerously and at speed in the area beforehand.

Following the crash, the car sped away before being found abandoned at the end of a public footpath.

Officers are now trying to trace the occupants of the vehicle, which they believe may have been used in thefts of patio heaters from The Boar's Head pub in Standish.

CCTV appears to show two men arriving in a car at the front of the pub on Saturday evening at around 8.50pm

The thugs, both wearing dark clothing, appear to sneak over the pub's patio wall and lift up a patio heater, before bundling it into the car and driving off.

At around 9.25pm the next night, the pub's cameras appear to show a car again parked in the same spot at the front of the pub.

Thieves get out of the car and repeat the same antics as on Saturday night - hopping over the wall and seizing another patio heater, this time putting it on the roof of the car before making off.

Greater Manchester Police have urged anyone with dash cam footage of Monday's crash, or information about the occupants of the vehicle, to get in touch by calling 0161 856 7124.
