Car involved in alleged Aberdeen hit and run was being chased by police at time of crash

An investigation has been launched after it emerged that a police car was following a vehicle involved in an alleged that left an elderly man seriously injured in Aberdeen .

A 66-year-old man was rushed hospital after he was struck by a car on Powis Terrace at around 2.30pm on Monday, November 25.

The elderly man was treated for chest and leg injuries at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the incident.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has confirmed that officers were following the vehicle involved in the collision at the time.

Investigators have launched a probe into the incident.

A spokesperson for the PIRC said: “We are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a road traffic collision in Aberdeen on November 25 in which a 66-year-old male pedestrian was seriously injured.

“Police were following the vehicle involved in the collision at the time.

“The incident was referred to us by Police Scotland and a report will be sent to the Chief Constable run due course.”

Two men have been charged in connection with the incident.

Lee Cowie, 33, was charged with several road traffic offences and two drug charges when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He was also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice. He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody.

On Wednesday George Cowie, 22, was charged with road traffic offences, attempting to defeat the ends of justice and a drugs offence when he appeared at the same court.

He did not enter a plea and was released on bail.
