Car insurance company starts refunding customers thanks to lockdown

Customers of Admiral insurance have been receiving refunds thanks to the lockdown.

The company is paying back £110million to its policyholders – a £25 refund for each car and van it covered as of April 20 - as there have been fewer cars on the road which has resulted in falling claims.

The refund was expected to be automatically credited to customers by the end of May and the company has already started to process the payments, reports Liverpool Echo.

About the refunds, the company said: "We’re pleased to be giving back £110m to our car and van insurance customers in recognition of you staying at home and driving less during the UK-wide Coronavirus lockdown.

"A £25 premium refund will be automatically given to all customers in the coming weeks for each car and van which was covered by us on 20 April 2020, a total of 4.4m vehicles."

How to get your refund

Admiral has written to its customers to say payments are currently being processed, though they may take 14 days to show.

Customers don't need to do anything as the payments are being processed automatically.

If the payment fails for any reason, Admiral will send a cheque instead.

In its message to customers, Admiral said: "You don’t need to contact us or do anything at all, your refund should be with you within the next 14 days.

"Thank you for being a loyal customer and for doing your bit during the Coronavirus lockdown."
