Car hits pedestrians near New York's Penn Station, injuring three

A van has jumped a curb in New York, hitting at least three people near Manhattan's Penn Station, police here say.

Authorities said that nobody who was hit sustained a serious injury, and said that the incident appeared to have been an "accident".

The incident occurred just as people were getting off of work, and many people use the busy transit hub to commute back home. Roadways around the station have been blocked by police and fire department vehicles.

"It doesn't look" like it was intentional, a New York Police Department spokesperson said. "Looks like the person lost control of the vehicle, ran into three people. Non-life threatening injuries. It seems to be an accident."

The spokesperson said that the driver was still at the scene, and that there had been no arrests related to the accident.

The incident comes months after a similar crash, when a car smashed through a crowd in Times Square, killing one woman and leaving 22 people injured. That crash initially evoked concern that it was intentional, and that it was related to other attacks where vehicles were used for deadly means in terrorist attacks across Europe.

That was not the case, in the end, as the individual was later reported to have tested positive for PCP.
