Car hits crowd of people in Manchester, police believe it to be an accident

At least five people have been injured when a car collided with pedestrians in Manchester, according to police.

Emergency crews were called to a collision near a roundabout in Trafford Park just before 10pm local time, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

The car failed to stop at the scene and police are attempting to trace the vehicle.

"There is no evidence to suggest this is terrorism related at this stage," Greater Manchester Police said.

"We believe at this stage it was an accident. Enquiries are ongoing."

Five people were taken to hospital with "serious trauma injuries" as a result of the collision.

"We were called at 9.49pm to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrians," a police statement said.

Trafford Park is 2.4 kilometres from Old Trafford, the home ground of Manchester United.
