Man rescued after car towing caravan drives off highway bridge

A man made a lucky escape when he crashed through a barrier and drove his car and caravan over a bridge on the Princes Highway.

A police spokesperson told the Bay Post that at about 8am, a driver had driven off the bridge over Jeremadra Creek, south of Mogo in a one-car crash.

The highway was closed in both directions for approximately two hours, with southbound traffic diverted along Tomakin Road and northbound via Broulee Road.

Police and the Rural Fire Service were quickly on the scene, where they found the Holden Colorado hanging over the bridge while the caravan remained on the road.

Once escaping the vehicle, the man was transported to hospital, but suffered no significant injuries.

Although he was not identified, the caravan bore ACT plates.

Croakers Towing were soon at the site, where they used a crane to loft the car from the creek onto the back of a flatbed truck.

While the Princes Highway closed for about two hours, traffic flow was restored mid-morning, although only one lane was open.
