Car gets wedged in front of Heaton house after going 'over the roundabout' and into it

A car has crashed straight through the front door of a house in Heaton.

But amazingly, no-one was seriously injured in the smash near Paddy Freeman's Park on Friday.

The owner of the house, Adrian Marsh, 58, has lived at the address for the last five years.

He said: “It was just my son in at the time, he was downstairs but he’s absolutely fine thankfully.”

The house is situated at the end of Jesmond Park West, opposite the roundabout.

“The driver just came down the hill [Newton Road] and over the roundabout and didn’t quite make the bend for whatever reason," said Mr Marsh.

"We don’t know why it because it doesn’t appear at this stage that they were speeding."

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At around 12.05pm today [Friday] we received a report a vehicle had collided with a house in Jesmond Park West.

"The fire service got the car out and the driver was taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be serious."

Phil Brookes, 63, a retired GP who lives on the street, saw the damage first-hand and said: “I've lived on this street for 19 years and it's certainly a first for me."

By the late afternoon the car had been removed by the fire service and the front of the house had been boarded up and secured.

“That’s one good thing - it was fixed really quickly which was marvellous,” said Mr Marsh.
