Car full 70 miles from Leeds home have pathetic reason to break lockdown

Four people from Leeds were caught by officers in North Yorkshire after they broke lockdown to look at a car one of them wanted to buy.

They were on their way to Scarborough when officers from North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group stopped them.

Traffic cop Mark Patterson said: "The four occupants of this car had apparently driven from Leeds to Scarborough to look at a car that one of them wanted to buy.

"This is not an essential journey and they were all reported for breaching Covid-19 regulations."

Current lockdown restrictions state people must not leave their home except where necessary (for example for work).

People who do need to leave their home should stay local and avoid travelling outside of their village, town or city.

Just over a week ago, lockdown breakers from Leeds went for "a drive out" to the North York Moors but got stuck in a foot of water on a dark country lane.
