Car flips over in dramatic crash balancing on edge of embankment

A driver and three passengers had a lucky escape when their car careered off the road into a steep embankment.

Merseyside's Roads Policing Unit were called to the scene in Hightown where a white Volkswagen had flipped onto its side.

The vehicle, surrounded by debris, appeared to be teetering on the edge of an embankment.

Part of the car boot lid could also be seen in the undergrowth.

According to police, the collision was caused by speed, poor observations and a lack of planning on a hairpin bend.

The occupants of the vehicle walked away from the collision with minor injuries.
