Car flips onto its roof after crashing into parked Mini

A motorist escaped with minor injuries after a car he was driving hit a parked car and flipped onto its roof.

Emergency services raced to the scene this afternoon in Tameside.

The silver Volkswagon Polo was on Broadbottom Road, Mottram in Longdendale, when police said it collided with an 'unoccupied' white Mini.

The collision caused the Polo to flip onto its roof.

An image taken by a witness shows firefighters, police and paramedics at the scene.

The driver - a 58-year-old man - was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries, GMP said.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed he was subsequently taken to Tameside Hospital.

He was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.

The collision happened on a stretch of the road between Ashworth Lane and Bucklow Close. The area was closed as a result.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3pm on Wednesday, police were called to Broadbottom Road, Mottram, to reports of a collision between two cars.

"A silver Volkswagen Polo collided with an unoccupied white Mini which caused the Polo to flip on to its roof.

"Emergency services attended and the driver - a 58-year-old man - was treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

The force is now urging witnesses to come forward.

No further details have been revealed.

The driver has not been named and no further update on his condition has been revealed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines from Stalybridge and Hyde fire stations, and a Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, attended.

"Crews arrived quickly and extricated one man from a vehicle using road traffic collision equipment.

"Firefighters made the scene safe before departing, and were in attendance for about fifty minutes."
