Car flipped on roof in M77 Hogmanay horror crash as emergency services race to scene

A horror crash on the M77 has left a car upside down on the busy motorway.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the accident just before junction 5 on the northbound carriageway.

Police, ambulance and fire services are currently on the scene and the details of any injuries are not yet known.

One lane has been closed following the accident - which happened at around 2.15pm - and traffic remains slow on the approach.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.15pm on Thursday, 31 December, officers were called to the M77 Northbound between junctions 5 and 6, following a report of a car on its roof. Emergency services remain at the scene at this time.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance Service have been approached for a comment.

It's the second vehicle to end up on its roof on the icy M77 today.

At around 11am an overturned van had to be recovered just down the road between junctions 8 and 9.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.55am on Thursday, 31 December, officers were called to the M77 between junctions 8 and 9 following a report of a van on its roof.

"There were no injuries reported and the vehicle was uplifted around 12.35pm."
