Car fireball horror on A96 as black plumes of smoke billow above Aberdeenshire road

A car has burst into flames on a major road in Aberdeenshire causing traffic chaos.

Thick black smoke can be seen billowing from the scene on the A96 between Tyrebagger and Blackburn.

A silver vehicle was captured ablaze by the side of the road as shocked drivers watched on at around 12.55pm.

It is unknown if anyone is injured.

Fire crews are currently battling the inferno.

It is understood emergency services have closed off a section of the road resulting in major delays.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a car on fire on the A96 northbound near Tyrebagger around 12.55pm on Friday, 18 September.

"Officers are on-scene and the road is currently closed."

Scottish Fire and Rescue have been contacted for comment.
