Car fireball horror in Shawlands street after 'youths set off fireworks underneath vehicles'

A car was deliberately set on fire in a quiet residential street in Glasgow .

Residents heard a loud bang and came out of their houses to find a parked car engulfed in flames in Millwood Street, in the Shawlands area of Glasgow, on Thursday night.

Two fire crews and three police vans were sent to the scene at 10.45pm after multiple 999 calls were made.

A BMW was completely burnt out in the attack.

A Suzuki parked beside the BMW was also damaged by the fire.

Residents claim a gang of youths had been setting fireworks off underneath cars.

It is understood a second car was set on fire in Giffnock just one mile away.

No one was injured in the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 10.45pm police received reports of a BMW car on fire in Millwood Street, in the Shawlands area of Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and the fire was put out.

"Another vehicle, a Suzuki, parked next to the BMW was also damaged.

"Early indications are the BMW was deliberately set on fire.

"Enquires are at an early stage."
