Car 'fireball' on Hogmanay as vehicle torched in Glasgow street

A car was firebombed in the wee hours of Hogmanay causing a dramatic blaze on a quiet residential street in Glasgow.

Fire crews raced to the scene on Ard Street in the Tollcross area of the city at 12:05am on Friday, December 31.

Dramatic pictures show the vehicle engulfed in flames outside the entrance to a block of flats.

One fire engine was dispatched to tackle the flames and no one was injured in the blaze.

It is understood no other parked cars were damaged by the blaze.

Police are treating the fire as deliberate and have launched a probe to find the culprit behind the inferno.

A police spokesperson added: “We were made aware of a car on fire at Ard Street in Glasgow around 12.05am on Friday, 31 December.

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.

“The incident is being treated as deliberate and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information can call 101, quoting 0017 of 31 December.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.51pm on Thursday, December 30 to reports of a car fire on Ard Street, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene.

"There were no reported casualties.

"Firefighters left after making the area safe."
