A driver was arrested after a car failed to stop at a checkpoint before he led gardai on a 40 minute erratic chase.
The incident happened when a car failed to stop for at a checkpoint at Lisgrey, Virginia in Co Cavan on Thursday at around 11am.
The care was driven erratically for around 40 minutes before it was eventually stopped by Gardai in Kells, Co Meath.
The driver failed the road side test for cannabis and was arrested.
It turned out that the man had been disqualified from driving and was in possession of drugs.
He was charged with dangerous driving and no insurance.
The man also received a Fixed Payment Notice for a non-essential journey.
The Cavan Monaghan Garda Division posted on Facebook: "Today, 4th March, at approximately 11am a car failed to stop for Bailieboro Gardai at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint at Lisgrey, Virginia.
"This car was driven erratically for almost 40 minutes in the Virginia and Bailieboro areas.
"The car was eventually stopped by Gardai in Monalty, Kells.
"The driver subsequently failed the road side oral fluid test for cannabis.
"He was arrested and brought to Bailieboro Garda Station.
"It transpired that the driver was a disqualified from driving, he was also found to be in possession of a quantity of drugs.
"He was charged with dangerous driving and no insurance with Court to follow and received a Fixed Payment Notice for a non essential journey.
"A file is being prepared in relation to both the drug driving and the drugs."
