Car engulfed in flames in overnight 'arson attack'

This is the moment a car was engulfed in flames during a suspected arson attack last night.

Emergency services were called to Prenton Dell Road in Wirral on Tuesday, to reports that a BMW had been set on fire.

The incident, described as "reckless" by police, happened outside a row of houses on the street at around 11.20pm.

No one was injured and an investigation has now been launched by Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue.

Video footage taken at the time shows the vehicle up in flames at the side of the road.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Nilsen said: "Thankfully nobody was injured in this incident but the recklessness of setting a car alight so close to homes is clear to see.

"If you live locally and saw or heard anything, or captured anyone acting suspiciously on CCTV or dashcam, please come forward and we will take action to remove whoever was responsible from the streets."

You can pass information via @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, with reference 20000205476.
