Car engulfed in flames in dramatic clip before armed cops lock down Fife street

This is the dramatic moment a car went up in flames before armed police locked down a Fife street.

Emergency services scrambled to Mina Crescent in the small village of Kinglassie near Glenrothes following the major incident this morning.

We told how officers were called after a man barricaded himself in a house.

Armed officers appeared to be aiming weapons at a property on the road and a burnt out car could also be seen on the street behind them.

A number of residents in the same block of flats were evacuated by cops.

Footage sent to the Record shows the moment horrified neighbours awoke to the vehicle on fire in a terrifying blaze outside their property.

In the clip a huge fireball can be seen outside the window, with what appears to be a pickup truck completely engulfed in flames.

The huge flames can be seen shooting up into the sky while shocked residents of the property watch on in awe from the living room.

A worried local resident told the Record: "It was just outside my friend's house. They have children in the house as well."

At least half a dozen police vehicles were seen parked on the road following the incident with fire crews also in attendance.

A resident posted on Facebook: "Police have Kinglassie blocked off. There’s armed police all over Kinglassie in a standoff.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are currently at a property in Mina Crescent, Kinglassie, after a man barricaded himself within. Police were called around 7.35am this morning.

"There is no risk to the wider public, however a number of residents in the same block of flats have been evacuated as a precaution."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were asked for comment.
