Car engulfed in flames at Edinburgh's Sherifhall roundabout

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that they are in attendance at an incident where a vehicle is on fire by the Sheriffhall roundabout on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of the afternoon on Sunday December 12.

Pictures captured by a concerned motorist appear to show a vehicle engulfed in flames just off of what appears to be the Edinburgh City Bypass - it appears as though the vehicle is lying to the side of the road in the picture.

The posted on Twitter: “A720 A7 (Sheriffhall Rbt) - A68 (Millerhill Jct) - Hazard, 1 lane restricted Westbound has been cleared.”

It is not yet understood the cause of the fire or if anyone has been treated for injuries at the site of the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service with the closure of a lane on the A720 eastbound at around 1:15pm on Sunday December 12.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said: “We were alerted to a report of a car on fire at 1.13 pm on Sunday 12 December at Sherriff Hall on the Edinburgh City By-Pass. Two appliances were immediately mobilised to the location and the fire was extinguished. Crews have now left the scene.”
