Car drove towards funeral procession with horse drawn carriage during police chase

The driver of a vehicle suspected to be involved in the supply of drugs escaped from police by driving dangerously towards a funeral cortege.

The Volkswagen T-Roc had failed to stop for officers on Scholdefiled Lane, Wigan who engaged in a high speed chase of the driver.

The car was reportedly driven dangerously during the pursuit, which police abandoned when the suspect "drove dangerously towards a funeral cortege including a horse drawn carriage and mourners paying their respects."

GMP Wigan West police said the suspect abandoned and torched the car on Broomhey Terrace before fleeing along the canal.

They didn't remain at large for long as the suspected driver was arrested the following morning after being identified by officers examining CCTV.

They were charged with dangerous driving and arson.

The suspected driver has since been returned to prison for previous firearms offences and is on bail pending investigations.
