Police unsure who was driving ute during multi-crash spree on wrong side of parkway

One person was taken to hospital last night after a vehicle driving on the wrong side of a major Canberra road resulted in three separate collisions on Saturday night.

ACT Policing are now seeking witnesses to provide information.

Police said they received multiple reports at about 10pm on Saturday, May 23, of a white Toyota HiLux driving against the flow of traffic in the northbound lanes of the Tuggeranong Parkway.

When police and emergency services arrived at the scene, they identified three collisions between Hindmarsh Drive and Cotter Road, they said.

Police believe there may have been other motorists involved in additional minor collisions.

They are also aware of social media posts from people who say they were driving on the parkway last night and avoided the HiLux.

"A huge accident at Tuggeranong Parkway going out from Woden," one Facebook user said on the Canberra Noticeboard.

"Ambulances and emergency services present, prayers for them hope everyone involved are safe ... please avoid this area."

The vehicle occupants were assessed by paramedics at the scene, and one person was taken to hospital.

Police say they have spoken to the occupants of the HiLux, and are working to establish who was driving the vehicle.

They are yet to make any arrests.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the collisions or has dashcam footage of the HiLux, with NSW registration DF77EC, to contact Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8394607.

Information can be provided anonymously.
