Car driver, 86, killed in horror Highlands smash with articulated lorry

The elderly driver of a car has died after a crash with an articulated lorry in the Highlands.

His black Peugeot 2008 and the DAF truck collided at around 11am on Wednesday on a section of the A939, known as the Dava road, a few miles from Grantown-on-Spey.

The 86-year-old man who was driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

An 81-year-old woman was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where her condition is described as serious.

Sergeant David Miller said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly died in this crash and our inquiries are ongoing to find out what happened.

"I would ask anyone who may have been driving along that stretch of road before the accident happened to get in touch and to check if they have any dashcam footage that could help with our investigation."

Anyone with information can call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0987 of Wednesday, 7 October, 2020.
