Car driven by drink-drive suspect hits parked-up police vehicle on M57

A police vehicle was left looking the worse for wear and set for a quick visit to a garage in the early hours of Saturday, November 27, after being hit by a car driven by a suspected drink driver.

The North West Motorway Police vehicle was parked up on the hard shoulder of the M57 near junction six when a car lost control and collided with it, causing extensive damage to a rear wing.

Police officers later tweeted: "Thankfully no injuries sustained but driver of Fiesta has been detained for driving well over the limit."

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the drink driving alcohol limit for drivers is 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood (the blood limit), 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath (the breath limit) or 107 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine (the urine limit).
