Car destroyed in Paisley firebug riddle

A car parked right outside a house was torched by a fire-bug in an early morning attack.

The silver Citroen C1 was completely destroyed and detectives believe it was random and not targeted.

It happened in Barscube Terrace on Paisley's south side around 1am on Sunday morning.

Emergency teams raced to the scene in Hunterhill, right next to the main A726 Barrhead road.

Police say it was "deliberately set alight".

Detective Constable John Sharkey, of Paisley CID, said: "We believe this to be a random act. Thankfully, no one was injured and the fire did not spread to the house.

"But the car was completely burnt out.

"Officers are making local enquiries and checking CCTV in the area in an effort to trace those responsible and so would appeal to anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area to get in touch.

"We're keen to hear from anyone who may, for example, have doorbell camera footage or private space CCTV to come forward.

"Information can be passed to officers at Paisley CID via 101. Please quote reference number 0319 of Sunday September 12. "Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
