Car deliberately torched over two nights by teens in Airdrie

Police are appealing for information after a car was torched on two occasions by teenagers in Airdrie.

At around 5am on Monday, May 13, two male teenagers entered the driveway of a property in Wallace Street, Plains, and smashed a window of a vehicle before throwing a lit accelerant inside.

They then made off in the direction of Jarvie Avenue. The car, a white BMW X6, sustained minor smoke and fire damage.

In a second incident at around 4.35am on Tuesday, May, 14, two male teens entered the driveway of the same property. They smashed a window and threw a lit object into the car, causing significant damage to it. The suspects made off in the direction of Jarvie Avenue once more.

No one is reported to have been injured in either incident.

Detective Constable, Craig McLean, is investigating the incident which is believed to be targeted.

He said: "These incidents were terrifying for the residents of the property to experience and it is only by sheer luck that no one was injured in either incident.

"Whilst our enquiries so far suggest that these incidents were targeted and not random, this doesn’t make it any less serious.

"I would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around the time of any of the incidents to contact us with any information they have.

"Wallace Street is very residential with a number of properties in the vicinity so I am confident that there will be someone in the area who may have witnessed one of these or both of these incidents.

"I would ask them to contact us or contact Crimestoppers in confidence via 0800 555 111."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coatbridge CID via 101 quoting either reference number 0654 of 13 May or reference number 0336 of May 14.
