Car deliberately torched on driveway in Stockport after 'petrol bomb thrown at it'

A car was deliberately torched on a driveway in Stockport.

Police and fire crews were called to reports of a car set alight on Styal Avenue, Reddish, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Firefighters spent an hour bringing the flames under control.

An eyewitness told the MEN he saw a man hurling a petrol bomb towards the Silver Ford Mondeo.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as arson.

No details on the cause of the blaze have been released by police.

There have been no arrests.

The witness said: "I head two loud bangs. I saw somebody throw a petrol bomb towards a Silver Ford Mondeo.

"I called police and the fire brigade. They both came, nobody has been arrested.

"I have a young daughter. I don't feel safe in my own home."

A GMP spokesman said: "Police were called to a report of a vehicle on fire on Styal Avenue, Reddish, Stockport shortly after 4.30am on Monday, May 11, 2020.

"Fire involved a silver Ford Mondeo.

"It’s been crimed as arson."

A statement released by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We attended a fire involving a car on a driveway.

"We were called at 4.30am this morning. We were there for an hour.

"One fire engine from Stockport attended."
