Car 'deliberately' torched in Lanarkshire village in 'suspicious' fire

Substantial damage was caused to a car after it was torched in a "deliberate" and "suspicious" fire in Plains.

No-one was injured in the place, which took place at around 9.05pm on Monday in the village's Arondale Road.

Police received a report of the blaze and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

However, substantial damage was caused to the vehicle, a black Ford Fiesta ST.

Detective Constable Lyndsay McKinnon of Lanarkshire CID told Lanarkshire Live : “We are appealing for information from members of the public relating to this deliberate fire.

“Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of this reckless act. But I would like to stress how dangerous wilful fireraising is and discourage anyone from setting a fire deliberately; and know that officers will always investigate any report robustly and thoroughly.

“If you saw anything suspicious and have any information or were in the area and recording via dash-cam, please check your footage for anything of relevance and contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3700 of September 20, or get in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
