Car deliberately set on fire while parked in Airdrie driveway

Police are on the hunt for those responsible for setting alight a car parked in an Airdrie driveway.

The white Mercedes CLA was extensively damaged following the fire at a house in Lochside Crescent.

It happened around 2.45am on Friday, May 24 and the incident is being treated by Police Scotland as a targeted attack.

A man wearing dark clothing was seen walking towards the house at the time - he was then seen running off towards Broompark Crescent.

Detective Constable Craig Jeffrey, of Lanarkshire CID, is appealing for anyone who has information to get in touch.

He said: "Fortunately, no-one was injured and although we are treating the cause of the fire as being wilful, we believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the public.

“If anyone has any knowledge of who was responsible I would urge them to contact Police Scotland."

Anyone with info is asked to contact officers on 101 using reference 0322 of 24 May 2019. Info can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
