Car deliberately set on fire in Carstairs housing estate

An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a car was deliberately set on fire in Carstairs.

The blue VW Polo was set alight while it was parked and unattended in Castledyke Gardens at around 3.40am on Saturday morning (September 7).

The Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was extensively damaged as a result.

Detective Sergeant Jim Williamson said: "early indications and collaboration with our colleagues in the Fire and Rescue Service point to this being a deliberate act of fire-raising on the car.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been in area of Castledykes Gardens in the early hours of Saturday morning to get in touch with police at Wishaw on the 101 number if they saw or heard anything suspicious."

Anyone who has information is asked to call this number and quote the reference number 0636 7/9.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
