Car crashes trying to flee masked machete gang

Detectives have appealed for information after a masked gang armed with machetes and knives attacked a car in Runcorn before the vehicle collided with a house while trying to flee.

Cheshire police said the terrifying incident happened at some time between 4pm and 4.20pm on Friday, June 18, on Masseyfield Road in Brookvale.

The incident happened after a row between a man and a woman standing in the street, and the male passenger of a black Audi being driven by a woman.

A gang armed with machetes and knives and wearing Balaclavas surrounded the car and damaged the windows, prompting the driver to try to drive off.

Police said the car “went into the front” of a house on Bartlegate before leaving the area.

A man inside the property suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and attempted section 18 assault in connection with the investigation, and a 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and threats to kill.

Both have since been released on conditional bail.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have issued an appeal for information or evidence including CCTV or dashcam footage.

Detective Constable Faye Taylor, of Runcor n Local Policing Unit, said: “Since the incident was reported there have been a number of enquiries made to understand exactly what took place and the reasoning behind it.

“The investigation is still ongoing and I am urging anyone who was in the area at the time or knows anything about what happened to get in touch.

“I know people may be reticent in coming forward and I would encourage them to report information anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers.
