Car crashes through barrier on busy Scots road halting traffic near Cairnryan ferry terminal

A car has crashed through a barrier on A77 near Cairnryan ferry terminal

The smash forced the busy road to shut and halted traffic as police rushed to the scene.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Belfast Way, Cairnryan.

Cops, fire crews, ambulance teams and Coastguards were seen assisting in the area.

Drivers were warned to avoid the area and plan journeys in advance.

There were no reports of any injures and the road has now re-opened.

Police Scotland said: "The A77 is currently CLOSED approximately 1/4 mile north of the ferry terminal at Cairnryan due to a Road Traffic Collision.

"Police, Fire, Ambulance and Hm Coastguard are assisting.

"Please avoid the area at this time."

They added: "We received a report of a crash involving one car, which had gone through a barrier, on Belfast Way, Cairnryan, around 5pm on Saturday, 15 January, 2022.

“There were no reports of any injures and the road has now re-opened.”

Traffic Scotland said: "The A77 is restricted in both directions between Ballantrae and Cairnryan due to a road traffic incident.

"Motorists are advised to approach with caution and expect delays."
