Car crashes into side of Bristol house in 'terrible incident'

Residents in Henbury were left shocked yesterday evening after a driver crashed a car into the side of a property.

One nearby resident, Marianna Pafiti-Georgiou, described the crash as a 'terrible incident'.

All the local emergency services were called to the incident but South Western Ambulance Service confirmed the injuries the driver sustained are not believed to be life threatening or serious.

The Fire Service were also in attendance and police confirmed that the man will attend a voluntary police interview as part of their ongoing investigation.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to Hallen Road, in Henbury, shortly after 10pm last night (Thursday 2 July) following a car colliding with a property.

"Police, ambulance and fire services attended the scene.

“The occupants of the property were unharmed.

"The car’s sole occupant, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital as a precaution. He has since been discharged.

"He is due to attend a voluntary police interview about the incident as part of our ongoing investigation.

“Officers resumed patrol at 1.45am.

"Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call 101 and give the call-handler reference 5220145770."

A spokesperson for the ambulance was able to confirm that the driver of the car was taken to Southmead Hospital shortly after the crash but has not sustained life threatening or serious injuries.

The spokesperson said: "We were called at 22:07 on 2 July to reports of a car having hit a building at this location.

"We allocated resources including a rapid response vehicle and a road ambulance.

"One patient was conveyed to Southmead Hospital ED by ambulance. I do not have details of injuries, but these do not seem to be serious or life-threatening."

Extensive damage was caused to the property as a result of the crash and it was the job of Avon Fire and Rescue to clear up the damage and check the car and property was safe.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said: "One crew from Southmead fire station were mobilised to reports of a road traffic collision.

"On arrival, firefighters found a RTC involving three vehicles and a residential property.

"Crews made one vehicle safe and checked the property for damage using a triple extension ladder.

"One casualty was assessed by ambulance crews on scene.

"The incident was left in the hands of the police and a structural engineer."
