Car crashes into rail bridge in Cathcart leading to train cancellations

A car has crashed into a rail bridge near Cathcart, leading to a number of train cancellations around Glasgow.

The incident happened at around 4pm, with services between Glasgow Central to Neilston, and Glasgow Central to Glasgow Central via Maxwell Park affected.

Scotrail have confirmed they have staff on site in order to ensure the bridge is safe to cross before it can be reopened.

It is not currently known if anyone has been injured in the crash.

A statement from the company reads: "We've had reports of a a vehicle striking a bridge near Cathcart.

"The bridge is a red structure so will need to be examined by our staff before services can pass over the bridge again. Our staff are now onsite.

"The following service alterations will apply until further notice: Services between Glasgow and Neilston and Inner Cathcart Circle services will be revised."

Passengers have been advised to look at taking alternative rail services or use local bus routes.
