A car has crashed into a Metro train at a level crossing near Callerton Park station.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision, which happened at just after 10am on Saturday.
The incident caused the Metro service to be suspended in both directions between Kingston Park and Newcastle International Airport as firefighters and police officers worked at the scene.
Nobody was seriously injured in the crash.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 10.15am police received a call that a car had been involved in a collision with a Metro train near to Callerton Metro Station.
"Emergency services attended but thankfully nobody has been seriously injured. Officers remain at the scene and the Metro line is currently closed”
A spokesperson for Nexus confirmed that Metro tickets were being accepted on local bus routes and thanked customers for their patience.
