Car crashes through fence and into house, driver charged high-range PCA

UPDATE: POLICE have charged a man for high-range drink driving after the car he was in lost control, mounted a curb and took out a fence and carport.

About 5.15am Wednesday emergency services were called to Tillie Street, Wallsend, to reports a car had crashed into a house.

Newcastle police officers attended the scene and were told a Mercedes sedan had been travelling down the suburban street when it collided with another car, before mounting the kerb and hitting a parked car, causing it to roll forward and hit a neighbouring house.

The Mercedes then crashed through a fence before hitting a carport and causing significant structural damage.

Paramedics attended the scene, but no one was injured during the incident.

Police spoke with the driver, a 25-year-old man, at the scene where he allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.

He was arrested and taken to Waratah police station, where a subsequent breath analysis returned a reading of 0.162, police said.

He was charged with high range PCA and issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday November 26.
