Car crash horror in Bankfoot

A Perthshire family has told of their horror after a car crashed into their front garden, only a day after they brought their new baby home from hospital.

Sarah Dunbar and her family were enjoying a relaxing Saturday evening at their home in Bankfoot when a “boy racer” crashed into their garden, completely destroying their fence and writing off their car, which was parked in front of their house.

She reckons had the family been sitting outside in the garden enjoying the warm weather, they could all have been killed.

The only thing stopping the car from crashing right into their house was a trailer parked outside.

Speaking to the PA, Sarah said: “I was sitting in our living room on Saturday evening and this boy racer, who has been terrorising the village for the past year, was travelling at full speed and crashed through our garden and nearly into our living room window.

“Had it not been for our trailer, he would have come right through the window.

“I had a brand new baby two weeks ago and she was right next to the window in her Moses basket when it happened.

“He also went right into our car, and because he was going at such a speed he moved it and crashed it into our garage, it was awful.

“The car is an absolute write-off.

“We just heard this noise and we couldn’t work out what it was and then we looked out our bay window and saw the vehicle coming at us, it was so scary.

“I was so hysterical, police, fire and ambulance had to be called out - it was like something out of a movie.

“My husband had been out at our car only moments earlier - he could have killed my husband if he was still out there.”

Sarah said the boy has become “notorious” around the Bankfoot area for his dangerous driving, and added his car was a “death trap”. She continued: “My husband is a car mechanic and when he went to look at his car, there were no back seats and the air bags had been taken out.

“His car was not fit for the road because his ABS had not worked.

“All cars need ABS to stop the car from skidding and to help you break - his car couldn’t do that.

“I hope no one considers driving that car in the future, it is a death trap.”

She added: “He was not sorry, not even one bit apologetic.

“He showed no remorse.

“I even asked him if he was on drugs because he was acting so strange. A normal person would have said sorry and been remorseful, but nothing came out if his mouth.

“We need to get him off the roads.

“We have been speaking to others in the village and they have been trying to get him banned for a year because of all his previous incidents.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “Police Scotland attended in Perth Road, Bankfoot, shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday, July 27 in response to a road traffic collision.

“A car had left the road and collided with a house, causing damage. There were no serious injuries and the driver of the car is to be reported for dangerous driving.”
