A crash between two police squad cars Sunday led to a foot pursuit as two men tried to escape police custody in Evergreen Park.

A police car was driving eastbound about 11:20 a.m. close to the 2200 block of West 95th Street and crashed into the driver’s side of another police car driving northbound on Oakley Avenue, Chicago police said.

In the crash, two men managed to escape from the squad car driving eastbound. One of the men was caught by Chicago police officers and transferred to Evergreen Park police custody, police said.

While chasing the second man, an Evergreen Park officer accidentally fired a shot into the ground before placing him under arrest, police said.

Neither escapee was injured, however, a 60-year-old woman passenger of the police car heading northbound on Oakley Avenue was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. She was treated for back pain and is in good condition, police said.

Evergreen Park Police Department is processing the two men who attempted to flee the crash.
