Car collides with tree in Erskine on Boxing Day

Emergency services rushed to a car crash in Erskine on Sunday where a car collided into a tree.

Renfrewshire Live understands a BMW crashed in to a tree after mounting a grass area off of a roundabout on Kilpatrick Drive on approach to the M8 slip road.

The Scottish Ambulance service attended the incident around 8pm on Boxing Day and it is understood no one was seriously injured.

A source told Renfrewshire Live : “That’s a bad road near Pandamonium with crashes happening there every other week.

“It would seem the driver was just going far too fast.

“They’ve somehow managed to go over the grass and crash in to a tree.

“The driver was seen in back of the ambulance and the passengers were out walking about so it looked like everyone was lucky enough not to be hurt.”

Police Scotland said they were unaware of the incident on Boxing Day.

Earlier this month we told how a study is to examine possible road safety measures at the problematic junction.

There are concerns at the speed of traffic on the main A726 and cars driving onto it from Kilpatrick Drive.

Erskine and Inchinnan SNP Councillors Iain Nicolson and Michelle Campbell have been in talks with roads bosses.

Councillor Campbell said: “We were aware the junction was raising concerns regarding traffic emerging to and from the junction and the speed of traffic to allow safe access.

“The main issue appeared to be traffic from the junction turning right towards the hotel and Bargarran.

“However from a survey of the junction and how it operates under normal day to day use it showed that a more comprehensive piece of work is required to consider options and possible re-design to make it safer.

“The council is now engaging a road consultant to design and produce options.”
