Car collided with train at level crossing near Fawdon station causing Metro delays

A car collided with a Metro train in Fawdon, suspending services for more than an hour.

The crash happened at a level crossing close to the Metro station at about 6.20pm on Tuesday.

It caused trains to be suspended between Regent Centre and Newcastle International Airport as police and Metro staff attended the incident.

There are not believed to have been any serious injuries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At about 6.20pm we received a report of a minor collision at a level crossing at Fawdon Metro Station.

"It looks like a car has collided with a train."

The suspension of the Metro lasted from about 6.20pm to just after 7.30pm.

There are still delays in the area.
