Detectives have today released the descriptions of two suspects they want to trace after a man gained entry into an East Ayrshire home claiming to be a cop.
Police earlier confirmed a 'significant' amount of cash, along with a number of other items, were stolen during the incident which took place in Lugton Road, Dunlop.
While the 'fake policeman' distracted the homeowner, a second suspect entered the property and made off with the items between 7pm and 8pm on Friday, February 11.
Enquiries have confirmed that a suspect dark-coloured Seat Leon car was seen in a nearby area on the evening the crime took place.
The suspects are described as being men, police have stated.
One was wearing scruffy clothing and carried what appeared to be a radio or walkie talkie, whilst the other wore a black tracksuit, hat and trainers, along with coloured worker-style gloves.
Detective Constable Paul Tracey, of Ayrshire CID, said: “We continue to appeal for anyone with information on this incident or the two men involved to please come forward.
“We are now particularly keen to speak with anyone who believes they saw the suspect Seat Leon in the Dunlop area, as this could prove useful to our enquiries.
“As our enquiries continue, our officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area.
"Anyone with information on this incident should call police on 101, quoting incident number 4002 of 11 February. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
