A suspect in a car chase went to desperate lengths to avoid police – by hiding in a freezing Ayrshire river.
Police Scotland revealed some of the details of what happened, during an incident early this morning, in a post on its air unit Twitter page.
North Ayrshire police were hunting two suspects in Kilwinning who had raced from a vehicle following a car chase.
The police helicopter was subsequently drafted in as attempts were made to apprehend the individuals.
However, what followed was certainly eyebrow-raising with one of the suspects bravely deciding to go for a chilly dip in the River Garnock with temperatures plummeting.
A photograph taken from the chopper in the skies at 1.21am shows a figure in the water with what is believed to be a police officer and police dog in attendance at the river bank.

The pair's efforts to evade police didn't work, though, with police confirming that both suspects had been arrested.
The Police Scotland air unit said in a tweet: "Police helicopter assisted North Ayrshire police colleagues [in] Kilwinning last night in locating two suspects who had made off from a vehicle following a car chase.
"One suspect attempted to hide from police in the river. Both arrested."
