Car caught on camera illegally driving up pavement in Levenshulme

A car was caught on camera driving on the pavement alongside a busy road at the end of the school day - and local residents aren’t happy.

The silver car is seen slowly crawling up the pavement of Stockport Road in Levenshulme before turning into the road while a nearby pedestrian crossing light is green.

According to Levenshulme Bee Network, who shared the video on social media, the car was one of two seen on the day using the stretch of pavement as a road.

“And this is why it’s sooooo important that we use the catalyst of #beenetwork improvements to change behaviour as well as build out these issues with priority design,” a tweet from the organisation said.

“It’s a shambles,” they added.

“Very much hopeful of a future where this is seen as ridiculous. Sadly it’s really widely accepted as the norm in a lot of our streets.

“Partly why there are so many cracked pavement slabs and tactile paving wrecked. It’s seen as a dropped kerb for entry!”

An image showed another car blocking the pavement at the same area and forcing pedestrians into the A6 (Levenshulme Bee Network)

According to a commonplace engagement project run by the Levenshulme Bee Network, more than 2500 suggestions have been made with ‘safety’ coming up as the highest priority.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
