Car catches on fire right next to its fuel tank on Fabian Way in Swansea - before man runs towards it

Dramatic footage shows the moment a car went up in flames on busy Fabian Way in Swansea.

Passersby can be seen stopping to help the driver at around 5.30pm on Friday, September 4 neat the Village Hotel.

One man runs towards the car with a fire distinguisher as smoke fills the sky.

Local resident, Paul Willcocks, 48, was driving past as the scene unfolded and said a man was helped out of the car.

He said: "The car passed us at McDonald's with flames coming out the back of his car until he couldn't go further due to traffic.

"An old gentleman was helped out. I don't think he realised his car was on fire until everyone around him brought it to his attention and got him out.

"There were police behind making their way through the traffic - that's why I moved my car. You can see a few people helping and some were moving their car away as they were afraid of it exploding."

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police confirmed officers attended the incident and said luckily no injuries were reported.

A spokesman from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "On Friday, September 4 at 5.35pm, firefighters from Swansea central attended a vehicle fire on Fabian Way, westbound, in Swansea.

"A private motor vehicle was partially damaged by the fire and extinguished using a hose reel jet. The fire service left the incident at 6.02pm."
