Car 'careers into lamppost' on busy Liverpool street

Dramatic pictures show the aftermath of a crash where a car smashed into a lamppost on a busy Liverpool Street.

The blue car "lost control" and "careered" into the central reservation, hitting a lamppost on Park Road shortly before 10am today (May 5), said one witness.

Photos from the scene show significant damage to the front of the car including the bonnet which has been bent upwards and the front lights have been smashed.

The force of the crash has also caused the lamppost to bend and some of the electrics can be seen dangling from the base of the light.

ECHO reporter Liam Thorp, who witnessed the crash, said: "I was driving down Park Road when suddenly I saw the blue car on the other side of the road career into the middle reservation and the lamp post.

"The guy looked in shock and smoke was coming out of the car - thankfully he wasn’t injured.

"The car was a total write-off - I think he just lost control."

Merseyside Fire and Rescue confirmed to the ECHO they were attending an RTC on Park Road and the there were "no apparent injuries" to the people involved.

Witnesses helped direct traffic around the accident on the busy road while they waited for emergency services to arrive.

Liam said: "The car was blocking one side of the road so we directed traffic around it until the police and fire service arrived."

He added that "it was a miracle" no-one had been seriously hurt in the accident.

Police, Fire and ambulance all attended the scene on Park Road.

People are being told to try and avoid the area if they can while the emergency services work to clear the accident.
