Police race to scene as car careers into gas main in Glasgow

A man has been arrested after his car careered into a gas main in Glasgow this morning.

Police raced to the scene following the incident which happened on Lochend Road in Gartcosh at around 11.40am.

Cops have sealed off the area and locals have been left without gas after the 36-year-old smashed into the gas main.

Gas engineers are currently on the scene and police insist there is no threat to the wider community.

There does not appear to be any serious injuries as a result of the incident.

The 36-year-old has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A local source said: "Someone has driven their car into the gas box station on Drumcavel road at Mount Ellen in Gartcosh.

"We have no gas in our scheme and all the roads are closed. Hope everyone is okay."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police were called around 11.40am on Sunday, 7 February, 2021 following the report of a car colliding with a gas main on Lochend Road, Gartcosh.

"There does not appear to be any serious injuries and there is no threat to the wider community. Gas engineers are currently in attendance to rectify the issue.

"A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
