Car button method de-ices windscreen in seconds - but not many drivers know about it

Experts have revealed an easy way to defrost the windscreen of your vehicle during those cold winter mornings.

Temperatures across Scotland have plummeted this week, with snow, ice and causing havoc as the thermostat struggles to get above freezing.

Commuters potentially face having to scrape ice from their car windows during the early hours of the morning. While a good old fashioned scraper does the job, the task itself is hardly desirable to carry out first thing.

That’s where expert advice from Driving Test Success, who post on TikTok under @drivingtestsuccess, comes in handy. They recommend blasting the heating on high to defrost the windscreen in no time at all.

Captions on the clip read: “Put the temperature on high, the the front windscreen fan on max, the ice will start to melt from the heat.

“Wipe away excess water and return the fan to normal.”

More than 1,000 people have liked the video since it was posted on TikTok last week.

One commenter said: "Wow, magic! The ice is gone."

And another praised the account for all their help, as they wrote: "I've learnt so much thanks to your app!"

But others were critical of the idea. One person wrote: “Wastes more fuel. Just get out and scrape it off you lazy so and so.”

The AA has also issued similar guidance to drivers on defrosting their windscreen.

It recommends that Scots check their wipers for any ice before going to use them.

Scots drivers should also sweep off any snow that may have fallen on their car.

And for those in a rush, motorists should consider scraping while the car melts the ice away.
