Car bursts into flames near Scots petrol station as emergency crews race to scene

A vehicle has caught on fire on a busy road near a petrol station in Fife today.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A921, which connects Kirkcaldy with the M90, this morning at around 9.10am after the vehicle caught fire.

Pictures from the scene show smoke billowing out of the car but no signs of a driver in the vehicle.

Officers from Police Scotland have closed the road near the Dalgety Bay BP petrol station to deal with the incident.

Police have still closed one lane of traffic in the area (Police Scotland)

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.10pm on Thursday, 9 July, officers received a report of a vehicle on fire on the A921 near Inverkeithing. There were no injuries and the road is due to be cleared.

In a statement on Twitter South West Fife Police said: “The A921 between the BP roundabout, Dalgety Bay and Hillend Road, Inverkeithing, is currently closed doe to a vehicle on fire and oil on the road.

"Please avoid the area and use an alternative route. Thanks for your patience."

Police have now opened one lane and reported no injuries from the event.

Drivers are being encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.06am on Thursday, July 9 to reports of a vehicle fire near Inverkeithing.

"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the Hillend bypass, where firefighters found a vehicle on the roadside which was well alight.

"Crews extinguished the fire and thereafter left the scene.

"There were no casualties."
