Car bursts into flames in Newton Mearns as firefighters race to scene

A vehicle has burst into flames in Newton Mearns today.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Services received a call shortly before 4pm today that a private car had burst into flames.

Firefighters raced to the scene outside Mearns Cross on Ayr Road.

Footage of the scene shows a white car engulfed in flames as thick dark smoke gushes from the vehicle.

Firefighters left shortly before 5pm.

Luckily there were no injuries and nobody was reported to be hurt.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Services said "Fire services did attend a car fire on Ayr Road.

"We received a call at 15.56pm of a private car on fire.

"There were no injuries reported at the scene".

Police were made aware of the fire but did not attend.
