Car blaze on Shields Road in Byker sparks emergency response

Emergency services were called out in the early hours of the morning after a car fire broke out in Byker.

Police and fire crews attended the scene on Shields Road just after 1am on Sunday.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that no one was inside of the car which had caught fire near to the Halfords Autocentre.

A spokesman said: "The call came in at 1.20am and we were in attendance by 1.25am.

"No persons were involved, it was a standard car fire.

"One crew from Byker Fire Station attended.

"Crews extinguished the fire and left the scene. The incident was concluded at 1.52am."

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed that they were stood down as there had been no injuries.
